BEWT is a by-youth-for-youth charity (CC61754). Our Board is made up of Pasifika and Maori youth who are
under 25. Our goal is to assist youth, especially
Pasifika and Maori youth, through their learning and training years into their earning years.
Youth join us at age 15-17 and remain connected over multiple years.
Our Positive Youth Development Programme is divided into three areas
We provide after-hours tutoring, strength and conditioning, and chill space at our Hub to students enrolled at mainstream schools. In 2025 many of these students are in Years 11 and 12 from Kelston Boys’ High School.
We support youth through their tertiary education. In 2025 we have youth enrolled at AUT, Unitec, and the University of Auckland
We act as an umbrella for NEET youth who wish to complete NCEA or University Entrance. We provide the physical facilities including space for tutors.
The students are either enrolled at Te Kura, the correspondence school, or earning credits through short tertiary courses.
Our Hub has four elements
A well-equipped gym with the provision of individualised strength and conditioning. The youth we serve have very clear size, shape, and strength goals. A number of elite teenage athletes are engaged with us. In 2024 these included five members of the NZ Rugby League Schools’ team, three members of the NZ Rugby League U18 Clubs’ team, one member of the NZ Secondary Schools Rugby Union team, and several members of the World Schools championship winning Kelston Boys’ High School 1st XV. These young men set the standard in strength and conditioning.
A tutoring service to secondary and tertiary students.
Chill-out areas. We have televisions, couches, a table-tennis table and a basketball hoop.
Food
We are able to deliver a number of “add-on” services through the Hub. These include advocacy, as well as assistance with driver licencing and employment.
